A coup threatens to destroy a declining dynasty
Chronology
With the massive Lawson ranch disinherited, Australia’s rival factions see an opportunity to take control. The series was filmed in the Northern Territory and South Australia in locations so remote that they are barely inhabited – let alone seen on screen. Filming locations include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park – with special permission from the traditional owners – and Tipperary Station, a real working cattle station so large it has its own airport and school.
It could make a nice scene drama
There are shows that you miss with high expectations as soon as you watch them. This series is about a family that owns a lot of land in the outback of Australia. Unfortunately, the country and its charisma is ruined by a very bad script.
There is too much crime and drama, which is poorly written
It’s very overdramatic, has characters bordering on caricatures, and far too many absolutely unbelievable things happen. As a viewer, you want to immerse yourself in a story about a family whose characters have depth and complexity. They try, but the characters fail to form a family you can relate to.
There is a base with scenery and a good cast to build on
Apparently people in the great country Down Under are constantly shooting, robbing and hurting each other. So I really wanted to like this, but the writers made it a second rate crime series that doesn’t deserve a high rating despite the great cast. However, I’m hoping for a second season where they tone down the drama and violence a lot and leave the writing to some smart people.
