Chronology
Inspired by a true story and directed by Magnus von Horn, THE FREAK follows Caroline (Vick Carmen Sonne), a young factory worker struggling to survive in post-World War I Copenhagen. When he finds himself unemployed, abandoned and pregnant, he meets Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm), a charismatic woman who runs an illegal adoption agency that helps mothers find foster homes for their unwanted children. With nowhere else to turn, Caroline takes on the role of a nurse. A strong bond develops between the two women, but Caroline’s world is shattered when she discovers the shocking truth behind her job.
