And because of that, Papamichael and director James Mangold are moving on to other projects
At the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, a young Bob Dylan shook up the folk music scene by switching to electric and remaking rock as the voice of a generation — defining one of the most transformative moments in 20th-century music. According to an October 2020 Collider interview with cinematographer Fedon Papamichael, the Bob Dylan film project will be put on the back burner due to the recently announced COVID precautions that studios are taking. "I don’t think he’s dead," Papamichael said of the Chalamet-directed biopic, “But it’s hard to do in the COVID era because it’s all in small clubs with a lot of extras in period costumes, so you’ve got a lot of hair and makeup.
Mangold does this
So our next project is actually Indiana Jones 5 (2022). I honestly had very low expectations for a “complete unknown.” Making a biopic about a man who is still alive, and such a unique and unique person as Bob Dylan, was supposed to feel like nothing more than a caricature. But somehow Timothy transformed into Dylan so organically and so effortlessly.
Monica Barbaro, who plays Joan, was a breath of fresh air!
The time period when Dylan was in his early twenties, when the world was getting to know him, as he was getting to know himself, was well done. I appreciated the humor in the script, and the audience had a few genuine laughs throughout the two-hour run. I hope she gets the praise she deserves for this and more opportunities in the future.
My favorite role, though, has to be Edward Norton as Pete Seeger
Elle Fanning was a slightly disappointing choice for a character based on Suze Rotolo, who Bob said was this breathtaking and striking woman. I didn’t feel like Elle did her best job, she was too much Elle Fanning. I’m not familiar with the real Pete Seeger, so I can’t compare, but Edward Norton did a fantastic job in the movie.
Timmy deserves an Oscar nomination and recognition for this role
I probably won’t watch this movie again, but walking out of the theater I had a nice aftertaste of the honor of inheriting that Bob Dylan will (and has) left in this world. I’m very curious to see how this compares to the Bruce Springsteen biopic with Jeremy Allen White when it comes out.
