Chronology

The story of how a young Donald Trump got his start in the New York real estate business in the 1970s and 80s with the help of notorious lawyer Roy M. Cohn. Roger Stone, a longtime partner of Donald Trump and Roy M. Cohn, admitted that Jeremy Strong’s portrayal of Cohn was “astonishingly accurate”. Shocking scenes usually have a purpose

Movies are going wild these days, and I’m here for it. Megalopolis was a nice mess, Joker 2 was messy without being nice (but I guess I took a chance), Terrifier 3 actually made me nauseous (I didn’t sleep well last night because I saw it last night too), and now The Apprentice is going to some crazy places. At some points I was like, “Are they allowed to show this?” I was shocked.

Is Trump suing?

I think the arguments in the movie are presented without much subtlety, but I think some people still think Jordan Belfort is cool based on the wolf in The Wolf of Wall Street, so who knows. But there’s also a very disturbing scene here that seems to clearly tell you what the filmmakers think of the Trump character. This is going to be the most controversial scene. Have you started that process yet? There’s also a lack of follow-up to the scene, which made me even more uneasy and nervous.

I think that was the purpose

Some people don’t like it — people who like and dislike Trump — and I wonder if that makes The Apprentice the blonde of the year. The writing says it all in The Apprentice , and I don’t… ;I don’t think it really knew how to end it, but otherwise it was amazing. The three leads — Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, and Maria Bakalova — are phenomenal. The juxtaposition of Trump’s rise and Roy Cohn’s fall was inevitable, but it makes for an extremely compelling drama. It’s a dull movie, but there are some nuances in parts that I think will spark discussion and/or controversy.

This movie will stick in my mind for a while

I’m not always into provocation, but if it feels appropriate and has a good narrative behind it, I’m all for it. Check out our list of exciting new films from this year’s film festivals, including Venice, TIFF, the New York Film Festival, and more.
